Known as the "Father of Library Science in India," Dr. Shiyali Ramamrita Ranganathan revolutionized the library system with his famous Five Laws of Library Science. His mathematical approach to cataloging and classification paved the way for modern informatics systems globally.
Commemorating the legacy of Dr. S. R. Ranganathan, we continue to empower information access, classification principles, and research innovation across academic institutions in India.
By endorsing this initiative, you commit to promoting open knowledge access, digital literacy, and sustainable educational practices across communities globally.

It gives me immense pleasure to connect with librarians, LIS professionals, researchers, faculty members, students, and knowledge seekers from across the country as we begin the National Librarian's Day Campaign 2026, leading up to the celebration of the 134th Birth Anniversary of Padmashree Prof. S. R. Ranganathan, the Father of Library Science in India, on 12th August 2026.
This campaign is a heartfelt tribute to the remarkable legacy of Prof. Ranganathan and a celebration of the invaluable contributions of libraries and LIS professionals in advancing education, research, innovation, and lifelong learning.
The theme of National Librarian's Day 2026 - "Libraries: Connecting People, Preserving Knowledge, Empowering the Future" perfectly reflects the transformative role of libraries in today's world.
Libraries connect individuals and communities with authentic and reliable information. They preserve our intellectual and cultural heritage for future generations. Most importantly, they empower learners, researchers, and citizens with the knowledge, skills, and opportunities needed to address the challenges of an ever-changing world.
As we launch this nationwide campaign, I warmly invite academicians, librarians, researchers, students, and all members of the academic community to actively participate in the National Librarian's Day Campaign 2026.
I also encourage endorsing the libraries through the National Librarian's Day web portal and sharing this message widely across the academic community. Together, let us make this campaign a vibrant national movement that celebrates libraries and recognises the unwavering dedication of LIS professionals as indispensable pillars of education, research, and knowledge dissemination.
I sincerely look forward to your enthusiastic participation and wholehearted support in making the National Librarian's Day Campaign 2026 a grand success.
Let us begin #LoveLibraries #EmbraceKnowledge.
Thank you.
Jai Hind!
